Lil' Evil Finally Snaps Losing Streak

After losing 6 fights in a row, you heard me, 6 fights in a row, Jens Pulver has finally won a fight. On January 22, 2011, Jens fought some no-name Mike "The Assassin" Linquist at XFO 38 in Woodstock, Illinois. I just found this out today, and I am so happy for this poor-motherfucker. Once a UFC Lightweight Champion, Jens has been on a massive decline as of late. After every fight, the sorry son of a bitch cries and tells fans he doesn't want to put them through another loss, but yet, he keeps fighting and keeps losing. If I had lost 6 fights in a row, I would consider retirement, and then maybe jumping off the Tobin bridge (just kidding). In this fight though, Jens locked up a RNC 49 seconds into the fight and received his first win in about 3 years.

Theres been rumors around that World Of Warcraft had ruined Lil' Evil's career. The game known to ruin kids lives reportedly caused Pulver to be glued to his computer. This probably kept him from training consistently. If this is true (I hope its not), its pretty pathetic. Id understand a 14 year old being addicted to this game, but a well-known fighter that could probably get a fight booked for him in any small-unknown organization? That's just absurd. Well, I hope he continues on his winning ways instead of playing "WoW" and pulling his pud all day.

UFC: FFTT 2 Prediction Results

First of all, this was a great event for one that was free. For the most part, I feel the results went the way people felt they would except for the main event. Matt Wiman defeated Cole Miller in a unanimous decision, Pat Barry defeated Joey Beltran in a unanimous decision, Mark Hominick defeated George Roop via TKO to recieve his shot at Jose Aldo's Featherweight title, Matt Mitrione defeated Tim Hague via TKO, and suprisingly, Melvin Guillard defeated highly touted Evan Dunham via TKO.

If I had to, I would have bet 100 bucks on Evan Dunham for this fight, and I am still shocked he didnt take the win. Melvin Guillard has had his ups and downs in the UFC and I had never expected him to run through Dunham so easily. He showcased his striking ability by knocking down and stunning Dunham many times throughout the fight, ending the fight decisively with a TKO. He was awarded Fight of the Night and Knockout of the night. Guillard claimed he would now go undefeated in 2011, and said he would also win the title. This is a pretty bold statement and I personally dont think he will be able to hang with the top contenders of the lightweight division, especially if he is put on his back and in danger of being submitted, as this is one of his main weaknesses. We'll find out soon enough if he is title-shot worthy.

As for points that we had all recieved based on our predictions, Vinny had 2 points, I (Shawn) had 4 points, Joe had 4 points, and Jon came in first for the event with 6 points, mainly because of his bold guess that Guillard would TKO/KO Dunham which was suprisingly correct.

The overall standings are as follows:

Standings:
Shawn: 6 points
Jon: 6 points
Vinny: 5 points
Joe: 4 points

UFC: Fight For The Troops 2 Predictions

UFC has found itself at Fort Hood, near Killeen, Texas for this event, as the superstars of the UFC are fighting for the men and women who defend our country every year. This event has a lot of up and coming young talent and should be another great, free card.

Main Card:

Lightweight: Evan Dunham vs. Melvin Guillard
Heavyweight: Matt Mitrione vs. Tim Hague
Featherweight: Mark Hominick vs. George Roop
Heavyweight: Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran
Lightweight: Cole Miller vs. Matt Wiman

Shawn's Predictions:
Cole Miller vs. Matt Wiman: Miller via Decision
Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran: Barry via TKO
Mark Hominick vs. George Roop: Hominick via Decision
Matt Mitrione vs. Tim Hague: Mitrione via TKO
Evan Dunham vs. Melvin Guillard: Dunham via Decision

Vinny's Predictions:
Cole Miller vs. Matt Wiman: Miller via Sub
Miller is a BJJ expert who holds a brown belt, I feel Miller's BJJ expertise will overcome Wiman's resiliency to be finished, and pull off the sub

Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran: Barry via TKO
Both are strikers, however I feel this is a LARGE step down in competition for Barry. Barry has the more technical striking, I feel he will utilize strong kicks (either leg or head) to dismantle Beltran since having been exposed of his weaknesses by Mitrione, who is a more brawler type fighter with KO power (having finished most of his fights via KO/TKO). Look for the highlight reel KO by Barry sure to please the crowds.

Mark Hominick vs. George Roop: Hominick via Decision
I don't know much about this two, however I do know that Hominick is known as an all around fighter with slick stand up skills, noted for his boxing. Roop is coming off a slick KO victory against the Korean Zombie (who woulda saw that coming?) Hopefully we'll see some fireworks in this, Hominick to come out with the decision

Matt Mitrione vs. Tim Hague: Hague via decision
Victim of the fastest KO in UFC history, Hague's not about to repeat the past. Being resigned in the UFC again, he's motivated to win this fight. Both are strikers and I feel Hague has more experience against Meathead in this fight, expect him to come out with a decision

Evan Dunham vs. Melvin Guillard: Dunham via Sub
Dunham is an upcoming prospect in the game, he's a BJJ blackbelt with most of his wins via Submission, Guillard is explosive and a decent striker, but I think Dunham will pull out the sub

- Also on the card will be a lightweight bout between the guillotine master Cody McKenzie and veteran Yves Edwards, and a welterweight bout between DaMarques Johnson and Mike Guymon. Fortunately, these fights will be featured on a Facebook live stream through the UFC's FB page. This card will deliver.

2011 is here!

What's up guys? It's been a while since I've made a post (Shawn does all the posting around here) I've been caught up with wrestling but I've decided to give an update so... in the world of MMA today:

After Stann's victory over Chris Leben, Stann has voiced his interest in fighting Wanderlei Silva. Classy as always, Stann gives credit to Silva as a man who was a proprietor of MMA, so this could be a fight that the fans want, new breed vs legend (I know really stupid of me but whatever haha). We'll see what happens.

Vera and Mckee get cut by the UFC: It's sad to see Vera get cut, however him being a cocky fucker kinda turned me off from him, but he's good nonetheless. His stand up made fights exciting but his "olympic" wrestling was something to be laughed at. Hopefully he can climb his way back up. For someone nicknamed Black Fedor, Antonio McKee isn't very good. He's known for his top notch wrestling (however it was not enough to earn him a split decision against Volkmann) and stifling style Jon Fitch has made infamous. However an article on Sherdog about Mckee's past has made me a fan, for some reason I love people with sweet backstories, it makes them much more interesting.

James Toney calls out Rampage. I'm sorry but this man is the dumbest motherfucker out there (hahahahaha). However this could be bad for Rampage, he loves to put on a show for the fans, and that might include boxing James Toney. Though I have no doubt in my mind that Rampage is NOT a retard and will Couture him.

Jon Jones wasn't a fan of Silva's slaps at UFC 125. He called Silva's act's "disrespectful" and said "Think about all the people who watched those fights. All his fans, all the members at his school, all the kids that look up to him. Man, it just kind of rubbed me the wrong way. It's not something I would ever want done to me and it's not something I would ever do to someone else." This is a very humble act on Jones, I've never really rode the Jones hype train but I give kudos to someone whose mind is not clouded by arrogance and stays humble.

Sonnen caught once more, With money laundering (hahahahaha). I'm not even gonna get into this one, I like him as a fighter and how he hypes fight (he's funny sometimes) but he got bopped for roids (which he talked his way out of) but now he gets caught with this.

Rumored Bouts:
Marquardt-Akiyama for UFC 128

Struve-Browne for UFC 130

So much more, but this is all I will say, enjoy all.

Welcome To Vegas: UFC 125 Prediction Results

What a night. Most of my predictions were wrong, but whatever, anything can happen in MMA.

Some incredible things happened tonight. Guida subbed Gomi with a guillotine that I never expected, "Stun Gun" Kim won a fairly one-sided decision over Nate Diaz, Brandon Vera lost once again in a one-sided decision to Thiago Silva, Chris Leben was TKO'd by Brian Stann, and Edgar and Maynard fought to a split draw.

In my opinion, the worst part of this night was the judging for the main event. The three judges scored this contest 48-46 Maynard, 48-46 Edgar, and 47-47. I scored this fight 48-46 Maynard, with round one going to Maynard 10-8 and him also winning rounds 3 and 5 10-9. I honestly don't know how this fight could have been scored in Edgar's favor. I will not completely dismiss the final decision though, as this fight was very, very close. Dana White has just recently announced an immediate rematch between the two.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has once again been proven faulty. The judging is nowhere near consistent, and it seems that each judge has their own guidelines for their judging, which is not right or fair. The first step in this process would to fire Cecil Peoples, the worst judge to ever step near an Octagon. He didn't judge last night, but this doesn't disregard the fact that he has the judging knowledge of a 6-year old tap dancer.

Another highlight of the night was the matchup between Chris Leben and Brian Stann. Stann was an underdog in this fight, and I believe he was highly underestimated. He showcased a striking clinic against a man who most people thought would get an easy TKO/KO. I never counted Stann out for this fight, and deep down in my gut I honestly believed he would win. After watching the countdown, I believed his striking would be more powerful, crisp, and technical. I'm not trying to make myself sound cool, but I only predicted Leben to be safe. Stann did exactly what I believed he could do.

Quote of the Night: "He (Stann) couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag" - Chris Leben

All in all, it was a decent night of fights. Most of us ended up on the shitty end of the stick when it comes to prediction outcomes, but here are the standings for the first event of the year:

Standings:
Vinny: 3 points
Shawn: 2 points
Joe: 0 points
Jon: 0 points

See you all next event.
