UFC 140 Prediction Results

This is long overdue, but do to being on winter break, I've been busy doing absolutely nothing with myself. Thought I should get this done for all the  "readers" out there (if any). Anyways, to the results.

A potential FOTN Featherweight bout started off the event between hometown hero Mark Hominick and "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung. Many new that after the death of Hominick's trainer and close friend Shawn Tompkins, a win for the Canadian was much needed. The bell rang and the two touched gloves. In the first few seconds, Hominick swung a wide right hook at Jung, the "Korean Zombie" rocked Hominick and finished him in just 7 seconds. He tied the record for the fastest KO in record history (tied with Duffee/Hague) in one of the most unexpected outcomes. Kudos to KZ, but it was a very emotional night for Hominick and the rest of his Canadian followers. The second fight of the night featured welterweight fighters Claude Patrick and Brian Ebersole. In a back and forth bout, Ebersole notched a razor-thin split decision win over Patrick some see as controversial, taking the victory on Patrick's home turf. In the third fight of the night, Tito Ortiz, now the "The People's Champ", faced off against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. In the middle of round one, Little Nog rocked Ortiz with a knee to the body and swarmed, finishing Ortiz with a TKO win due to strikes on the ground. It is unsure what is next for Ortiz, as he said that he is willing to fight one more time. Personally, I could care less. I appreciate what he has done for the sport, but his cockiness and attitude gets on my nerves big time.

In the co-main event, Heavyweights Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira faced off in a rematch. They're first fight ended with Mir becoming the first man to finish Big Nog, as he took the victory by TKO. Big Nog claimed that this loss was due to his staph infection at the time, but Mir wasn't having it. Big Nog came out to prove that he match Mir's skills on the feet, and proved just that. Big Nog rocked Mir on the feet and Mir fell to the ground, fighting to keep the fight alive. Instead of trying to finish Mir with strikes, Nog made a risky decision and went for a guillotine, to prove he could also match, if not better Mir's BJJ skills. With a quick sweep and roll around, Mir caught Big Nog in a kimura, and unfortunately, Big Nog refused to tap, resulting in a broken humerus. In one of the more gruesome finishes we have seen, Mir proved his first win wasnt a fluke, and also became the first man to submit Nog, the proclaimed BJJ expert. It is unsure what is next for Nog, but it is speculated Mir might match up with former HW champ Cain Velasquez in the future.

In the main event, Jon Jones took on what most believed to be his toughest challenge stylistically, Lyoto Machida. The first round was definitely taken by Machida. With his effective striking and karate skills, Lyoto proved to be the danger that most thought would be Jones' "kryptonite". Jones held his own through the round and prevailed into the second, in which he caught Lyoto with a standing guillotine on the cage. Similar to Big Nog in his fight with Mir, Lyoto refused to tap and paid the price. The ref was forced to stop the fight, as Lyoto was sent crumbling down to the canvas, having Jones retain his LHW title once again, cementing himself among the top in the P4P list.

Vinny got 5 points, Joe and I (Shawn) got 4 points, and Jon got 3 points.

Standings:
Shawn: 114 points
Joe: 101 points
Vinny: 95 points
Jon: 86 points
