What an event. To start off the main card my Boston boy Joe Lauzon displayed his amazing BJJ by submitting Melvin Guillard with a rear-naked choke just 47 seconds into the fight. Lauzon was a huge underdog in this fight and to be honest I didn't really have much confidence in him. I am very excited for him and will always be a fan. Next on the card was a long awaited rematch between Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia in which Phan used his superior technical striking to win at least 2 rounds and take the decision. After being completely robbed in their first bout, Nam needed to win this fight, and he did just that. Kudos Nam.
In the third fight on the card, Chael Sonnen defeated Brian Stann with an arm triangle choke in round 2 in a fight that was mostly dominated by Chael on the ground. After the fight, Chael made a very bold WWE-like statement towards Anderson Silva regarding their rematch. This fight is pretty much booked but it is unsure when and where it will happen.
In the co-main event, Jose Aldo defended his Featherweight Championship by defeated Kenny Florian via unanimous decision. Aldo controlled the majority of the fight with his striking that left Florian with no offense. Florian was clearly very upset after the fight because this has been his third title fight and he has never won a championship. It is unclear whats next for Kenny.
In the main-event, Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard squared off in a very long awaited rematch for the Lightweight Championship. The opening round was very reminiscent of the 1st round of their second fight, with Gray dominating on the feet and almost knocking Frankie out. This round could have arguably been given a score of 10-8. The second and third round were hard to score, with both fighters providing a decent offense/defense against one another's attacks. I was very worried this fight would end in another draw if one of the two didn't definitively win the last two rounds. In a jaw-dropping fourth round, Frankie dropped Gray with an uppercut and pounced, knocking him out with strikes on the ground and retaining his coveted belt. A big congrats to Frankie for finishing this rivalry with a bang. Arguably one of the best cards of the year.
