Knockout Of The Day (Bellator 53)

Here we are again with another beautifully executed knockout from Bellator.

Just last Saturday on October 8th, Bellator 53 delivered with some great fights. The co-main event/Welterweight semi-final match-up between Chris Lozano and Douglas Lima was one to be remembered. This fight was spent mostly on the stand up and about three minutes into the second round, Lima sent Lozano packing with a hard right hook handing Lozano only the second loss of his career. Take a look:

Douglas Lima is now set to face UFC veteran Ben Saunders at Bellator 57 in the Welterweight Tournament Final match.

These knockout posts are probably going to be a regular from now on, with Bellator being one of the only well-known promotion that posts their fight videos on YouTube. Expect more great KO's from Bellator in the coming weeks.

UFC 136 Prediction Results

What an event. To start off the main card my Boston boy Joe Lauzon displayed his amazing BJJ by submitting Melvin Guillard with a rear-naked choke just 47 seconds into the fight. Lauzon was a huge underdog in this fight and to be honest I didn't really have much confidence in him. I am very excited for him and will always be a fan. Next on the card was a long awaited rematch between Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia in which Phan used his superior technical striking to win at least 2 rounds and take the decision. After being completely robbed in their first bout, Nam needed to win this fight, and he did just that. Kudos Nam.
In the third fight on the card, Chael Sonnen defeated Brian Stann with an arm triangle choke in round 2 in a fight that was mostly dominated by Chael on the ground. After the fight, Chael made a very bold WWE-like statement towards Anderson Silva regarding their rematch. This fight is pretty much booked but it is unsure when and where it will happen.

In the co-main event, Jose Aldo defended his Featherweight Championship by defeated Kenny Florian via unanimous decision. Aldo controlled the majority of the fight with his striking that left Florian with no offense. Florian was clearly very upset after the fight because this has been his third title fight and he has never won a championship. It is unclear whats next for Kenny.

In the main-event, Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard squared off in a very long awaited rematch for the Lightweight Championship. The opening round was very reminiscent of the 1st round of their second fight, with Gray dominating on the feet and almost knocking Frankie out. This round could have arguably been given a score of 10-8. The second and third round were hard to score, with both fighters providing a decent offense/defense against one another's attacks. I was very worried this fight would end in another draw if one of the two didn't definitively win the last two rounds. In a jaw-dropping fourth round, Frankie dropped Gray with an uppercut and pounced, knocking him out with strikes on the ground and retaining his coveted belt. A big congrats to Frankie for finishing this rivalry with a bang. Arguably one of the best cards of the year.

I (Shawn) got 6 points, Vinny got 5 points, Joe got 4 points, and Jon got 3 points.

Standings:
Shawn: 87 points
Joe: 78 points
Vinny: 71 points
Jon: 67 points

Knockout Of The Day (Bellator 51)

I thought it would be nice to stray from the normal prediction posting for a bit to present you with a just wonderful knockout from a few weekends ago.

On September 24th at Bellator 51, the main event featured highly touted Bantamweight Joe Warren against Alexis Villa. Joe Warren is known as a fairly cocky fighter and considers himself to be "the baddest man on the planet", when he is only 7-1 in his MMA career. Im not sure what this guys thinking, but there is no way a guy thats 5 ft. 5 and 135 pounds can be that much of a badass. Unfortunately for Warren, Alexis Villa didnt agree. Check it out:

With one swift left, Alexis Villa took "the baddest man on the planet" and put him out cold. That little runt has no reason to use that ridiculous phrase anymore. Joe Warren's also the Bellator Featherweight Champ! They put him in a non-title fight that he should be able to win and he gets knocked out stiff with ease. If I was in charge of Bellator, Id take that stupid worthless belt right off of him. Plus, the guy isnt in the UFC and he thinks he can walk around claiming hes one of the best in the world. Not to hang on the UFC's nuts, but in the "octagon" is where he would find some real competition. My prediction is this little spitfuck would be easily beaten by any mid-tier UFC fighter. Stick to the shallow Bellator Featherweight division Joe.

UFC 135 Prediction Results

Straight to the results. Nate Diaz started the off the event with a great armbar submission victory over Takanori Gomi, Travis Browne defeated Rob Broughton via unanimous decision, and Mark Hunt defeated Ben Rothwell via unanimous decision. In the co-main event Josh Koscheck defeated UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes via KO at the very end of round 1 (4:59), and in the main event my boy Jon Jones defeated Quinton "Rampage" Jackson via submission with a rear naked choke in round 4 to retain his title.

It is unsure after this event as to if Matt Hughes will retire from fighting. It would be great to see him go out with a bang, but he is getting old and slow. He is apparently still contemplating fighting for the UFC again.

Jon Jones on the other hand, proved to still be improving. It wasnt quick or easy, but he controlled most of his fight with Rampage and submitted him with a fair amount of ease in the 4th round. Next for Jones is Rashad Evans, who I also believe will have a lot of trouble with Jones. With the tension between the two, it should make for a greatly hyped fight.

As for points, Joe and I (Shawn) got 4 points, Jon got 3 points, and Vinny got 2 points.

Standings:
Shawn: 78 points
Joe: 72 points
Vinny: 64 points
Jon: 63 points
