UFC 145 Results

To start off the main card in Atlanta, Georgia, LW Mark Bocek squared off against late replacement and UFC veteran John Alessio. As many expected, Bocek out-classed veteran Alessio, defeating him by unanimous decision after 3 rounds (30-27, 29-28, 30-27). In the next bout, FW's Mark Hominick and Eddie Yagin faced off. After an embarrassing loss in Canada in his last showing, Hominick wanted to make a good comeback. Unfortunately, Yagin felt no remorse, as he rocked Hominick left and right with big shots. Some feel the judges not should have been in favor of Canadian, but Yagin stole the victory via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28). BW's Miguel Torres and up and comer Michael McDonald squared off in a bout that would secure McDonald's spot as a top contender. Just roughly 3 minutes into the opening frame, McDonald rocked the once #1 BW fighter Torres with hard shots, eventually finishing him on the ground. Expect McDonald to see a big opponent in his next fight.

In the third fight of the night, HW's Brendan Schaub and Ben Rothwell squared off in a bout that would end just roughly a minute into the bout. In the midst of some wild exchanges between the two, Rothwell rocked Schaub with a short uppercut, and followed up with some powerful GNP, winning the bout via KO. In the second bout of the night, contender and favorite Rory MacDonald squared off against well known striker Che Mills. For the entirety of the first and second round, MacDonald completely outclassed Mills, showing superiority on the feet and especially on the ground. About two minutes into the second frame, MacDonald defeated Mills via TKO.

In the main event, Jon Jones and Rashad Evans squared off for the Light Heavyweight Championship to squash their beef. The whole bout was mostly controlled by the champ Jones, as he showcased his superior striking ability. Rashad proved to be quick, agile, and strong, but he wasn't a good enough match for the champ. In the end, Jones defeated Evans via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 50-45)

To start off the event, BW's Brad Pickett and Damacio Page sqaured off in a bout that would be awarded FOTN. In the second frame of the back and forth fight, Brad Pickett brought the fight to the ground and eventually tapped out Page with a RNC. In the next bout, WW and TUF 9 alum DaMarques Johnson squared off against an up and comer in John Maguire. Maguire showcased his superior ground game and locked in a tight armbar, submitting Johnson in the second round of the fight. The third fight of the night, fans saw a FW Dennis Siver battle Diego Nunes in close fight that resulted in the German receiving the nod from the judges (29-28 all around).

In the fourth fight of the card, Paulo Thiago squared off against highly touted newcomer, Afghanistan's Siyar Bahadurzada. Siyar's hype was well deserved, as after a few strikes were exchanged by he and Thiago, Siyar KO'd Thiago stiff just 42 seconds into the opening frame. Fans are sure he will get a top opponent in his next bout. In the co-main event, MW strikers Brian Stann and Alessio Sakara squared off. Viewers knew this fight would take place on the feet for the most part. As expected, the two were throwing bombs, and it was just a matter of time until one fell. About 2 minutes into the opening round, the fight went to the ground and Stann was brought into Sakara's guard. Shortly after, Stann threw two powerful strikes, KO'ing Sakara. Being the class act that everyone knows he is, Stann didn't throw any unecessary shots, as it was clear Sakara wasn't in the right state of mind. I hope Stann gets a big shot at Hector Lombard if (when) he signs with the UFC.

In the main event, Sweden's own Alexander Gustafsson fought Thiago Silva. The bout was controlled on the feet by Gustafsson, as he used his superior striking and range to outpoint Silva. As expected, Gustafsson received the nod on the judges scorecards, unanimously (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).
